 The International Association of Ultra Runners (see www.iau.org.tw and website under development: www.iau-ultramarathon.org) has granted the 2010 edition of the 6 Inch Trail Marathon a Bronze Label! The IAU is the international governing body for ultra running and is under the patronage of the IAAF. The Australian Ultra Runners Association (AURA) supported this application, as was necessary for approval. The 6 Inch Trail Marathon is the first trail race in Australia to receive IAU labeling! Labeled events are listed on the IAU website, drawing the attention of international athletes. Finishers of labelled events are placed on an annual list of world-wide rankings. In addition, athletes wishing to qualify for their national team often need to compete at IAU labelled events. Preference is often given to performances at IAU labelled events, as those provide funding to national teams.
